A fatal bike accident put a tragic and abrupt end to a flourishing sport career in Rome. The Italian Swimming Federation and European Aquatics are heartbroken upon learning the death of Noemi Carozza, one of the great hopefuls of sycnhronised swimming.
Noemi, just 21 years of age, was heading towards glorious days, represented Italy at the junior World and European Championships and the European Youth Olympic Festival and earned gold medals at the Italian age-group championships, her last appearance happened among the seniors’ event in early June. But faith had something else for her, instead of making the big stage…
Leaders of Italian sport, headed by FIN and LEN President Paolo Barelli, General Secretary Antonello Panza, CONI President Giovanni Malago as well as leading stars like world and Olympic champion swimmer Gregorio Paltrinieri and Gabriele Detti and other greats of Italian aquatics all gathered in Ostia to bid a final farewell to the wonderful girl.
“Noemi is not only a champion of our sincerity, but also a positive example for all citizens “ said FIN and LEN President Paolo Barelli while offering his last words before the funeral.
Our thoughts are now with her family, the parents, Cinzia and Lorenzo and the brothers, former volleyball player Marco and water polo player Federico and her 80 year-old grandmother who were present at all her competitions.
