With less than a week to go to the London 2016 LEN European Aquatics Championships, Olympic bronze medallist Tom Daley has helped launch the official mascot – Ray the Ray.
Running from May 9-22, the official Championships mascot Ray shares a lot of the qualities of the iconic roof of the host venue, the London Aquatics Centre at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.
Much like the official medals of the Championships which were revealed back in March, Ray has been born out of the fluid form of the roof of the London Aquatics Centre which mirrors its movements.
Olympic bronze medallist Daley was on hand to officially unveil Ray with less than a week to go to the Championships, which are the biggest event to be held at the London Aquatics Centre since the 2012 Games.
For Daley, the Championships will act as vital preparation for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games as he competes in the 10m platform and 10m synchro with Dan Goodfellow as well as the mixed 3m synchro.
The men’s 10m platform final at the Championships on Sunday May 15 has long been unavailable for the public to purchase while the men’s 10m synchro final on Thursday May 12 will reach capacity within the week.
These join the final three of the seven swimming finals on Friday May 20, Saturday May 21 and Sunday May 22 in being unavailable with the remaining four to reach capacity by the start of the Championships on May 9.
The London 2016 European Aquatics Championships will be delivered in partnership with British Swimming, London & Partners, London Legacy Development Corporation and the Mayor of London. The Championship is part of UK Sport’s National Lottery backed #EveryRoadtoRio campaign, helping Britain’s athletes prepare for the Rio Olympic and Paralympic Games.
