Champions League, Euro Cup Qualifying Rounds – Preview

Heated battles are in sight

An extremely busy weekend is ahead featuring the second qualification round of the Champions League and the first qualifiers in the Euro Cup. From Friday to Sunday thirty-one teams will play in eight cities around Europe, all aiming to get one step closer to the elite stages.

Once again, the field will be halved in the Champions League qualifications, and for a couple of teams it’s going to be really painful as there are more than eight sides in the current round which can rightfully dream of making the main round.

Especially Group E and Group F can bring really heated battles as it’s hard to pick outstanding favourites in either of these tournaments. In Group F, teams playing last season’s Euro Cup final, Brescia (ITA) and Kazan (RUS) will take on two former winners of the Champions League, Crvena Zvezda (SRB) and OSC Budapest (HUN), promising a series of mouthwatering clashes.

In the Euro Cup not less thrilling contests are scheduled in the opening round. Here Group C and Group D look really balanced, neither of the two representatives of Naples will enjoy an easy journey, though both Canottieri and Posillipo posted outstanding results in the past couple of years in this competition.
