Prize money for the best ones in London

At its meeting in Rome, the LEN Bureau has approved the federation’s budget for 2016 which includes € 1,000,000 in prize money for athletes and contribution for the participating federations at the 2016 continental championships, including the Europeans in London.

This is going to be the first time that LEN offers financial awards for the most successful competitors at its main event, while National Federations will receive a financial contribution to support the travel and accommodation costs of their athletes.

“In the past four years we’ve managed to improve LEN’s financial situation and we now decided to financially assist National Federations and athletes as their performances continuously raise the level of our wonderful events " LEN President Paolo Barelli said. "The participation of the most important European teams, the presence of outstanding athletes and the large-scale TV coverage will make our events an unforgettable experience for all aquatics fans.”

On the eve of the European Championships, the LEN General Congress takes place on 8 May in the East Winter Garden where elections are going to be held.

The LEN Bureau also approved the respective reports of each Technical Committee. In open water swimming, since the Junior Open Water World Championships have been anticipated to July, the LEN Bureau decided to move the junior Europeans to the first or the second week of September (location to be determined).

The Bureau also approved the allocation of this year’s Final Four tournaments in the women’s club competitions: Mataro (ESP) will host the LEN Trophy finals on 15-16 April and Sabadell (ESP) will be site of the Euro League F4 on 22-23 April.?
