2023 European Short Course Swimming Championships will be “truly unforgettable”

European Aquatics and the hosts of the European Short Course Swimming Championships – Otopeni-Bucharest 2023 – are delighted to reveal key details around what promises to be a spectacular climax to the sporting year.

The largest European swimming event of the year will take place from in 5-10 December.

Many of the best athletes from across the continent are expected to gather in Romania and use the six days high-level competition to enhance their preparations for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

World record holder David Popovici has already confirmed he will race in his home event.

It will see the Romanian double world champion return to the setting of the 2022 European Junior Swimming Championships where he claimed four gold medals.

“Short course competition, with fast turns and exciting ambience, is popular amongst athletes and fans, and I am confident we will have excellent support from our member federation,” said European Aquatics President Antonio Silva.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank the President of the Federation, Camelia Potec, as well as the local organising committee and their counterparts at European Aquatics. By working together we can achieve great results.”

COMPETITION SCHEDULE

Romanian Aquatics and Modern Pentathlon Federation President Camelia Potec furthered those sentiments ahead of what she expects to be “truly unforgettable” event.

“We are thrilled to be the hosts of the largest event of this year’s swimming calendar,” she said.

“I am grateful to have the opportunity to welcome dear athletes, coaches and team members, friends and supporters from all over Europe to be an inspiration for all those who love our sport.”

In addition to six days of action-packed racing, attendees will also be able to sample the stunning touristic attractions across Bucharest and Otopeni, 10km north of the Romanian capital.
