The second leg of the European Aquatics Open Water Swimming Cup 2024 gets underway in Barcelona this weekend.

Twenty-two men and 19 women will take to the water with some swimmers making final preparations for Paris 2024 and all will be looking to make their way up the standings in the waters off the Catalan city.

Angela Guillen heads the women’s standings with 800 points ahead of Ginevra Taddeucci (700pts), Caroline Jouisse (600), Lisa Pou (550) and Ines Delacroix (500) following the first leg in Piombino, Italy.

While Pou and Delacroix will compete in Barcelona, the top three are absent offering an opportunity for others to elevate themselves in the standings.

Among those competing are Angélica André of Portugal who finished third at the World Championships in Doha in February to earn a spot in the 10k at the Olympics.

Oceane Cassignol of France was fifth in Doha to punch her ticket for Paris and she too will fine-tune her preparations in Barcelona.

She is fresh from the European Aquatics Championships Belgrade 2024 where she swam the second leg as France won relay bronze behind Hungary and Italy.

Also taking to the water will be Spanish pair Paula Otero Fernandez and Candela Sanchez Lora.

Domenico Acerenza of Italy heads the men’s standings with 800 points with none of the top five competing in Barcelona.

That offers a great chance to the remaining swimmers to make an impact on the leaderboard.

Among the field is Piotr Wozniak of Poland and a four-strong Spanish contingent including Guillem Pujol Belmonte and Mario Mendez Puga.
