British Olympic champion Matty Lee secured victory in his competitive return as he and Noah Williams teamed up to the synchronised 10m platform title at the Scottish National & Open Diving Championships in Edinburgh.

Lee claimed gold at Tokyo 2020 alongside Tom Daley, but after he took a post-Games career break Williams joined the line-up for the 2022 season.

The pair won World silver and Commonwealth gold before Lee himself took a break from the sport and appeared on TV programme ‘I’m a Celebrity – Get Me Out of Here!’.

Lee and Williams performed well, securing a combined total of 370.65 for their six routines, to finish clear of Roma 2022 European champions Ben Cutmore and Kyle Kothari (340.11).

“It is still so early in the season and it can be quite rocky at this really point, but I’m happy with mine and Noah’s performances,” Lee told Scottish Swimming after the final.

Williams, who won individual 10m silver at Roma 2022, added; “I’m trying to practice my competition routines, and get back into that competition mindset, shaking off the nerves after a couple of months of holiday and some time off with an operation.

“We’re focused on the result, but (also) the process of it.”

Scottish duo Libby Duke and Ellen Gillespie won the women’s synchronised 10m platform with a total of 189.87 points.

“It’s great to get some practice in before our individual events,” said Duke.

“Synchro is one of my favourite events – I don’t get as nervous, so it’s good practice and preparation going forward.”

Gillespie added; “We’ve been working on Synchro for quite a while, but we’ve had a break recently to focus on our individuals.

“It’s great to be back as a pair competing – I’ve missed it!”
