Ukraine’s Kyrylo Azarov as well as German synchronised pair Jaden Eikermann and Christian Bilke secured Fina World Junior Diving Championship titles on the fourth day of competition in Montreal.

Azarov’s Group B success, for 14–15-year-olds, 1m springboard saw him become Ukraine’s second male individual World Junior Diving gold medallist in Montreal following KirillBoliukh’s Group B 3m springboard victory on day two.

The 14-year-old achieved a combined score of 431.90 for his five routines to finish ahead of Miguel Esteban Tovar of Colombia (424.15) and Ivor Brown of the USA (402.90) third.

“I wanted to win the gold medal as I was fourth in the 3m (on Monday),” Azarov told Fina after the final.

“I am grateful to my coaching team who helped me achieve where I am now.”

Eikermann won Mixed Team silver with the German line-up on the opening day of competition and claimed a second medal of the competition with victory alongside Bilke in the Men’s synchronised 10m platform final, featuring 14-18 year-old divers.

The pair attained a combined score of 301.98, to edge clear of British duo Robbie Lee and Euan McCabe (298.74), with Joshua Hedberg and Tyler Wills of USA (297.48) third.

“We capitalized on those (required dives) and got over 100 points so when we dropped our optionals, we didn’t go too far down the leader board,” Lee said.

The women’s synchronised 3m springboard event saw two further British divers attain podium places, with Desharne Bent-Ashmeil and Amy Rollinson claiming silver.

They attained a combined score of 270.30 to finish behind the Canadian duo and ahead of the Australian team.

“I feel great and I’m happy I’m done!” Bent-Ashmeil told Fina.

European divers have now attained 13 honours at the competition in Canada and have the potential to claim many further medals in the coming days.
