European Aquatics is excited to reveal further key details around the masters open water swimming competitions at Madeira 2023.
The first-ever European Masters Short Course Championships will run from 19-25 November in Portugal.
The 1.5km (20 Nov) and 3km (24 Nov) events will take place on the second and sixth days of competition respectively, from the LIDO Bathing Complex.
Check-in will open at 8am (local), which is two hours before the swimmers named in the first wave will take to the waters. Subsequent waves will begin in 15-minute intervals.
The first three swimmers in each age-group and gender will receive medals, with the stunning designs set to be revealed in the coming weeks.
An absolute and gender per Master age-group classification will be performed, whilst all efforts will be made to provide security and support to participants with power boats, kayaks, SUP and a support boat carrying medical professionals, all present.
“We are all looking forward to meet you in Funchal, Madeira in November,” said European Aquatics and Portugal Swimming Federation President Antonio Silva.
These updates follow an earlier release which contained the provisional pool swimming competition programme and a promise that masters swimmers will receive a “high level” racing experience in Madeira.
