European Aquatics is proud to reveal the iconic medal designs for the first-ever LEN European Masters Short Course Swimming Championships.
Athletes who place in the first three in their age-group standings, for each swimming event, will be rewarded for their incredible efforts with one of these beautiful medals.
The history-making event will take place in Funchal, Portugal, from 19-25.
“These wonderful medal designs truly represent the style and substance we witness in masters’ competitions,” said Antonio Silva, President of European Aquatics and the Portugal Swimming Federation.
“I am delighted to see this latest development as we edge closer to what will be a historic event.
“Madeira 2023 promises to be a true celebration of aquatic sport so I would encourage masters athletes out there to sign up now for what will be magical week of racing in a beautiful part of the world.”
The Madeira 2023 medals concepts were envisaged by Portuguese designer Eliana Lopes and approved by European Aquatics earlier this month.
Lopes is excited to now see her creation go through the rendering process in the coming weeks ahead of the competition in November.
“We wanted to be bold,” Eliana Lopes tells European Aquatics.
“While paying tribute to the traditional rounded shape, there are nuances to the branding materials which have been created with the love and respect that masters swimmers deserve.
“The medals were built with the event logo elements; the half circle is inverted to support the event logo, but still has the cutting angle towards the top right corner which means ‘success’; focus and waves will give them a bit of personality.
“We created a ‘deconstructed’ logo because we want to ‘disrupt’ the idea that age and sport can’t go hand in hand.
“We hope all medallists are proud to wear this medal and enjoy them as much as we do.”
