Santoro claims fifth career World Junior Diving gold

Matteo Santoro added to his stunning haul of World Junior Diving Championship gold medals with a third victory in Montreal taking his career total to five.

After securing individual 1m and 3m titles earlier in the week he partnered Italian team-mate Stefano Belotti to victory in the synchronised 3m springboard final.

The duo scored a combined 299.25 from their routines, to take the win by just 3 points from Croatian pair Matej Nevescanin and David Ledinski (296.25), with Britain’s Leon Baker and Hugo Thomas (289.77) third.

Another diver to celebrate multiple podium finishes in Canada is Kirill Boliukh, who’s Group B (14-15-year-old) individual 10m platform success followed his win on day two in the individual 3m springboard final.

The Ukrainian achieved a total of 476.90 to finish clear of Britain’s Jorden Fisher-Eames (442.90) and Joshua Hedberg (438.80) of the USA.

European Junior 3m and 1m springboard champion Giorgia De Sanctis of Italy added a World Junior honour to her collection with bronze in the 1m event for 14-15-year-olds in Montreal.

She attained a combined score of 317.25, to finish behind winner Alexa Fung (333.20) of Canada and the USA’s Molly Gray (323.90).

European divers have now attained 23 honours at the competition in Canada and have the potential to claim further medals in the coming days.

Britain’s Archie Bigginswho LEN spoke with ahead of the event, will be among those seeking success in the first appearance of high diving at the Fina World Junior Diving Championship competition.
